Finally! Something to do with all those shoe boxes in your cupboard - evidence of shopping sprees past!
The Santa Shoe Box Project is an initiative that allows you to donate a personalised Christmas gift to underprivileged children. This year, the project is aiming to collect Christmas gifts for 70 000 kids of all ages across SA by the end of October.
31 561 boxes have been pledged, which means there are still 38 161 kids who might have to go without a present this Christmas!
All you need to do is go to the Santa Shoe Box website and register to pledge a box. Select the charity, name and age of the child you would like to give a gift to.
The box then needs to be covered.
Please ensure your box contains ALL of the following items:
1. Tooth paste AND a tooth brush
2. Soap AND a wash cloth
3. Educational supplies
4. An outfit of clothing
5. A toy (young boys love cars!)
6. Some sweets (chocolates do melt)
7. Anything extra if you wish
Please use a medium sized shoe box, wrap the box and lid separately, decorate the box, secure the lid with a strong elastic band, stick the label you have been emailed on the top right hand corner of the lid.
They are quite particular about what is in the box - please ensure you include all of the above for the sake of fairness.
It really is a fantastic initiative and won''t cost a lot of money or time, just add a few items onto you grocery list, and you can make a huge difference to a child this Christmas.
You can select the child by age and gender, so it could be a really good project to do with your kids or grandchildren to give to someone their age.
